JAPAN’S FIVE STAR INTERNATIONAL BUFFET EXPANDS TO HAWAII AT ROYAL HAWAIIAN CENTER

Buffet Offers Culinary Adventure Around the Islands
With Fresh Seafood, Local Produce in Modern Dining Space

Gourmet cuisine in delicately-prepared portions is not commonly associated with buffets, however, the concept is now making its way from Hokkaido to the beautiful beaches of Waikiki.

After seven years and three successful openings in Hokkaido, Japan, the first Five Star International Buffet opens in the heart of Waikiki on the third floor at the Royal Hawaii Center. The restaurant is open for lunch, happy hour and dinner. The buffet is reminiscent of an open tasting menu featuring gourmet cuisine from Hawaii and around the globe. House specialties, fresh seasonal dishes made with locally-raised seafood and produce, and delectable desserts are prepared by more than a dozen chefs in an open-dual kitchen.

The restaurant sports a modern décor with warm earth-tones, maple wood floors and oceaninspired paintings. The dining space overlooks the buzz on Kalakaua Avenue and comfortable seats 150 guests including lanai seating.

Some of the house specialties include: braised short ribs served with Maui onions, Wailua asparagus and Kahuku corn pudding; Jidori Chicken Marsala with Hamakua mushrooms; and Salmon & Langoustine Lobster. Salads are made with greens from Nalo Farms and Hirabara Farms on the Big Island. Fruits such as Kamiya Papayas and Kunia Watermelon are grown locally.

The menu also includes ribeye steak complimented with various home-made dipping sauces, an abundance of chilled seafood, tempura, and sushi prepared by classically-trained chefs from Japan. The dessert spread is an assorted collection that includes Warm Bread Pudding served with Maui vanilla sauce; Macadamia Nut Mousse; Maui Gold Pineapple Cheesecake; Green Tea Haupia Panna Cotta; as well as tarts, crème brulees and cakes.

In 2003, the first Five Star International Buffet opened in Hokkaido, Japan. The restaurant featured endless buffet choices of the world’s best cuisine. The overwhelming response led to three more restaurants in the area. The next restaurant is scheduled to open this summer in Taipei, Taiwan. The Five Star International Buffet at the Royal Hawaiian Center is located in Building C, on the third floor near Forever 21.

The restaurant is open daily for lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a special Happy Hour from 2 – 5:30 p.m. Dinner is served from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m.
