Aloha, it's Kukui.
Here is Gabby's message who is in Hawaii Youth Symphony 1.
I think I speak for all musicians when I say that the individual surrenders itself to a greater community - a family. Beautiful music is not made by individuals who play only to suit their own needs, it is made by communities which embrace the camaraderie of creating music together. I like to think that this musical unity is directly related to the fellowship of humanity and our innate dedication to one another as human beings.
I don’t know about you, but when I heard about this tragedy that hit Japan, all I could do was cry. My heart ached for the victims of these disasters, as well as their families who are mourning, and trying to rebuild their lives in this critical time. It still does. But then I realized something: Japan doesn’t need my tears. Japan needs my shoulder to cry on, and it is my responsibility to support them in their time of need. I hope everyone in this beautiful hall experienced the same revelation. It is our time to help someone else.
Only time can tell what will come of this tragedy, but I can tell you one thing for sure: We are blessed with life, and to know that is one thing, but to understand and appreciate it is another. I hope you can reach into your hearts and find it in you to give what you can to help. Together, we can bring light to the land of the rising sun.
Thank you Gabby and Hawaii Youth Symphony!!
