(HONOLULU, HI) – Ocean Investments, LLC (OI) has announced the much anticipated opening of the restaurant and lounge located in Kakaako Makai at the former John Dominis site, 53 Ahui Street. A spin on the address, the restaurant named 53 by the Sea, and the lounge T’s at 53, will begin welcoming customers beginning Wednesday, September 26th.

 

“We look forward to welcoming guests to the beautiful new 53 By The Sea restaurant and T’s at 53 lounge.” said Mr. Shigeyuki Takami, Managing Member of OI “We feel residents and visitors alike will be awed by the grand yet classic redesign, outstanding food and magnificent views.”  To maintain the specialness of the John Dominis era and incorporate Hawaiiana features, OI teamed with Architects Hawaii and Philpotts and Interiors in the design of the building.

 







The fine-dining restaurant captures the location’s beauty with floor to ceiling windows framing iconic Diamond Head and Waikiki. Entrée selections feature fresh Hawaii fish and the finest hand-cut meats. The restaurant offerings will be complemented by local fruits and vegetables personally shopped for by Executive Chef Hiroshi Hayakawa.

 

In Japan, Chef Hayakawa trained at the Musashino Culinary Institute that has an affiliation with the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. He took charge of Tokyo’s exclusive Membership Restaurant “Century Court,” featuring Italian and French cuisine. Moving to New York in 2003, Chef Hayakawa cooked at the prestigious Italian cuisine restaurant Il Mulino New York. That same year, he returned to Japan as Executive Chef of Il Mulino Tokyo.

 

Chef Hayakawa’s talent is paired with respected and popular Hawaii Master Sommelier Roberto Viernes. Guests will enjoy Roberto’s exquisite wine pairings with over 100 fine wines from Italy, France and California. Roberto Viernes selected 53 By The Sea’s in-house sommelier, Connor Barbaree. Connor’s knowledge and customer service will make guests’ dining experience memorable.

 

General Manger, Shige Kikuchi, will oversee the stunning restaurant and the lounge.   Shige worked in renowned restaurants such as Spago Tokyo and has an extensive experience as General Manager of Taormina Sicilian Cuisine. Shige will personally welcome every guest at 53 By The Sea and ensure that guests are well taken care of with delicious food and genuine hospitality.
