Visit the Saturday Farmer’s Market at Kapiolani Community College (KCC), and you’ll see a line at the Kona Abalone stall; the smoky, savory scent of freshly grilled abalone is too alluring to pass up.

You’ll see first-time visitors and regulars lining up for the abalone and perhaps walk away with a few live abalone to cook on their own.

As everyone gears up for the holiday season, many are starting to think through their menu options for Thanksgiving and holiday parties. With a well-loved delicacy like Kona-grown abalone, it’s easier than you think to put together a gourmand-worthy dish. Best of all, the Kona Abalone store at Ala Moana Center’s Makai Food Court will now offer an exclusive rate for live abalone.

Ranging from 15g (SSS), 25g (SS) and 45g (S), the smaller sized abalone are much more approachable and perfectly sized for pupu dishes. While there are creative recipes aplenty, the classic butter sautéed, grilled or steamed abalone are always easy (and fast) go-to options.

While there is a half-pound (0.5 lbs) minimum to ensure this special rate, customers should know that quantity is limited, so an order of five pounds (5 lbs) or more will require a pre-order. Price are subject to change without prior notice.

To order, call ahead at (808) 941-4120, or simply walk into the store.

Size and Price:

S         (45g, ave. approx.. 10pc/lb)  $20.00/lb (approx… $2.00/pc)

SS       (25g ave. approx. 18pc/lb)    $18.00/lb (approx… $1.00/pc)

SSS    (15g. ave. approx.. 30pc/lb)  $15.00/lb (approx… $0.50/pc)

About Big Island Abalone Corporation

Big Island Abalone Corporation (BIAC) produces Kona Abalone, a premium stock of Ezo (Northern Japanese) abalone. Kona Abalone is the result of over 15 years of research, intensive study, and experiments by the company. BIAC's facilities include a hatchery, a nursery, abalone grow-out tanks and algae growing tanks, insuring that BIAC controls the quality of the abalone from the very start of the growth cycle. A blend of algae is used to feed the abalone, optimizing abalone taste, texture, color, nutrition, and shell characteristics. BIAC maintains an inventory of over four million abalone on its ten-acre site.
