RMHC-Hawaii is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a home-away-from-home for seriously ill children and their families in Hawaii and the Pacific.
On March 27, RMHC-Hawaii is commemorating its 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, McDonald’s of Hawaii will donate 25 cents from every Shamrock Chocolate Madness product sold from February 21 to March 20 to the organization.
In 1974, McDonald's ran a weeklong Shamrock Shake® promotion with all proceeds going towards building the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, making the Shamrock Shake the inaugural fundraiser of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
This year, McDonald’s has introduced a new line of seasonal McCafe beverages to their classic mint flavor Shamrock Shake lineup, combining mint and chocolate to the Shakes, Frappes, Mochas and Hot Chocolate. The five delicious mint chocolate beverages in the Shamrock Chocolate Madness include:
1. ShamrockChocolateMadnessPicShamrock Shake – This is our classic, smooth and creamy mint-flavored shake topped with whipped toppings and a cherry.
2. Chocolate Shamrock Shake – The perfect mix of mint and chocolate.
3. Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappe – Bits of chocolate chips, a hint of coffee and mint flavor.
4. Shamrock Mocha – Espresso with mocha and mint flavor.
5. Shamrock Hot Chocolate – Hot chocolate with a hint of mint.
The Shamrock Chocolate Madness fundraiser is just one of many ways McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii helps RMHC-Hawaii raise funds for families. McDonald’s restaurants throughout Hawaii include RMHC donation boxes at both the front counters and in the drive-thru. Change collected from these boxes goes directly to the organization. In addition, when you order a Happy MealÒ or Mighty Kids MealÒ, five cents from each product sold goes to RMHC-Hawaii.
About Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC-Hawaii) offers support for families with seriously ill children by operating two Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa Valley and a respite and support center inside Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
The Ronald McDonald Houses offer safe, comfortable lodging and many other vital services to create some normalcy in the lives of families from the neighbor islands and around the Pacific when they come to Honolulu seeking medical care for their children. Each year, hundreds of families make a Ronald McDonald House their “home away from home.”
The hospital-based Ronald McDonald House Family Room provides support for families of inpatient children, Most of those assisted at the Family Room are from Oahu.
RMHC-Hawaii programs strengthen and support families during a very difficult time. For a child being treated for a serious illness, having family members nearby to give love and comfort may be as crucial as medical care itself.
RMHC-Hawaii relies heavily on community support to keep the Houses running, not only through monetary donations, but also through countless hours of personal time committed by volunteers.
